It is noted that this will be the first gas supply to the republic not from Russia.
“PGNiG Supply & Trading, in cooperation with the American-Ukrainian group ERU, won a tender for the supply of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova,” reads the PGNiG material published on October 25.
The Polish operator clarifies that the tender for a one-time supply was announced by the state-owned company Energocom and was organized urgently after the reduction of gas supplies to Moldova from the Russian energy company Gazprom.
“We believe that the current difficulties will induce Moldova to diversify its sources of gas supplies, as well as further integrate with the EU and comply with EU gas rules,” said Yaroslav Mudryi, Managing Partner of ERU Group.
As follows from the material, gas will be delivered through a point on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
Currently, the Moldovan government is negotiating with the Russian Federation and Gazprom to sign a long-term agreement on the supply of natural gas. The previous contract ended at the end of September but was temporarily extended for October. The Russian side insists on payment by Chisinau of the accumulated debts of over $ 700 million in gas.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure of Moldova Andrei Spinu said that the republic will conduct an independent audit of historical debts to Gazprom before recognizing obligations on them.
On October 22, a state of emergency was declared in Moldova for a period of 30 days in connection with the crisis in the energy sector.
Before that, on October 11, Moldova asked the EU countries to start urgent gas supplies through Romania due to its shortage. On October 6, Moldovagaz urged customers to cut costs and switch to alternative fuels, since the daily consumption of natural gas in Moldova from October 1 began to exceed the volume of supplies from Russia.
