Poland’s government on Thursday estimated the financial cost of World War II losses at US$1.3 trillion and said it would officially demand reparations from Germany.

The announcement made by the country’s deputy prime minister, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, was made on the 83rd anniversary of the beginning of the conflict.

Kaczynski said that receiving reparations will be a “long and difficult” process. About six million Poles, including three million Polish Jews, were killed during World War II.

According to the AFP news agency, the German government has rejected the possibility of paying this compensation to the Poles.
