Poland will be without injured striker Robert Lewandowski for their European Championship opener on Sunday against the Netherlands.
Team doctor Jacek Jaroszewski said in a statement that the Barcelona star has a tear in his hamstring muscle and that he suffered it in the warm-up of the game against Turkey on Monday in Warsaw and which they won 2-1.
The Polish captain came off the bench 32 minutes into the match with an injury to his right leg.
“We are doing everything for Robert to play the second game against Austria,” the team said in a statement.
In Group D, Poland will face Austria on June 21 before facing France four days later in the tournament in Germany.
This is another blow to Poland. Lewandowski He is the team’s all-time scoring leader with 82 goals in 150 games.
Arkadiusz Milik was supposed to be up front alongside Lewandowski at the Euros, but on Friday he injured his left knee in the friendly against Ukraine. Milik returned to Juventus and underwent successful knee surgery on Monday.
Paweł Dawidowicz and Karol Świderski were also injured on Monday, but are expected to return to training in 3 or 4 days.
