Pokémon Scarlet and Violet They may not be remembered among the best chapters of the long-running Game Freak series, yet in terms of sales they are beating the records of many of the previous chapters. According to the latest data shared by Nintendo, the ninth generation games have reached a quota 25.29 million copies sold in the world.
These numbers are impressive in themselves, but they are even more so if we consider that now Scarlet and Violet are the third pair of games to reach the fastest the milestone of 25 million copies. Not only that, they are now well on their way to reach and surpass the sales of Pokémon Sword and Shieldwhich, according to official Nintendo data, reached 26.35 million copies in the last quarter.
The lowest rated game pair in the series
In short, a commercial success that is as remarkable as it is peculiar, considering that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are among the least appreciated games of the main series by fans and critics. On Metacritic they have a average rating of 72: it’s the lowest metascore ever reached by the main franchise. The situation doesn’t improve when considering the user rating, equal to 3.5 out of 10.
Among the main criticisms we find those to the technical departmentnot only very backwards, but also showing its weakness for performance problems and low-resolution textures, and an open world formula that does not seem to have convinced all players.
