An off-duty military police officer shot and killed a 16-year-old teenager in the late afternoon of Saturday, 3rd, on Rodovia Cônego Domênio Rangoni, in the Vila Áurea neighborhood, in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo. According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the agent claimed to have fired to defend himself against an attempted robbery. Two suspects were arrested.
The Secretariat stated, in a statement, that military highway police officers were called to respond to the incident at around 6 pm on Saturday.
Upon arriving at the indicated address, they found the 42-year-old PM, who stated that he had been approached by a suspect who had a gun on his waist.
The officer then said he reacted and hit the teenager. The young man was rescued, but did not survive his injuries.
The PM also reported that he saw a second suspect abandon a backpack and a bicycle at the scene, then fleeing. A simulacrum firearm was also seized there, according to the secretariat.
The backpack was returned to a 52-year-old truck driver, who reportedly confirmed that he had been the victim of a pair of criminals moments before the police officer was approached, according to information from the Secretariat.
One of them said he was armed and then broke the vehicle's window.
Later, two men aged 19 and 29 were arrested, suspected of having participated in the robbery of the driver.
One of them was recognized by the military police officer involved in the incident and the other by the truck driver, said the secretariat. The duo remained at the disposal of the Judiciary.
According to the folder, expert examinations were requested from the Criminalistics Institute (IC) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
The case was registered as robbery, death resulting from police intervention, location/seizure of object, location/seizure and delivery of object and criminal act of attempted robbery.
The investigations are monitored by the Military Police.
