Code yellow has been issued in the Netherlands, so pay attention! In this case because of the extreme cold.
For those with a dog it is no longer a surprise: it is cold today, very cold. This means that we motorists have to adapt. Yesterday we were able to report on a relatively new but wonderful phenomenon: frozen charging cables. This in addition to the usual windshield wipers, locks and doors.
Code yellow in the Netherlands
It has become a little colder today and that creates special situations on the road. The KNMI therefore issues Code Yellow for some areas in the Netherlands. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute did this for the provinces of Gelderland, Limburg, North Brabant and Overijssel. The Code Yellow is valid until the end of the morning, by which time it must be sufficiently warmed up.
It is not just the temperature that is low, but mainly the perceived temperature. It is considerably lower. This is due to the icy eastern wind that blows through our country. The temperature is actually about -5 at the moment (and rising slightly), but it seems to be -12 to -15.
Heavy morning rush hour
According to the ANWB, the weather will take care of this today a heavy morning rush hour. According to the club, you can expect the most traffic jams in South Holland and North Brabant. There are currently no Extinction Rebellion demonstrators at the A12. Not so much because it is too cold, but mainly because the A12 between Malieveld and Bezuidenhout is closed due to work. This section will open again on February 3 and then it will be warm enough (probably) to protest. From that moment on they will be there again.
Finally, the precipitation: there is none. It will stay dry. So we don't have snow yet and therefore no discussions about whether or not to fit winter tires (which often work better than summer tires below 7 degrees), but that's besides the point.
