In 2008, PSP users were blessed with Patapon, one of the most beloved PlayStation series, but also one of the least recognized. Although many had thought that after the launch of the third installment in 2011 the franchise had been forgotten, Surprisingly, it has been announced that a remake is already in development.
During Sony's presentation at CES 2024 that took place yesterday, a trailer focused on TorchLight was released, a project focused on pre-production using the Unreal Engine, focused on filmmakers to make the production process production much easier for them. Along with this, it is also a space that video game developers can use to their advantage, thanks to motion capture and other tools. It was here that we got a look at what appears to be a remake of the original Patapon.
Unfortunately, Sony and PlayStation have not shared more information regarding this project. In the TorchLight trailer, The Patapon section mentions that this is a “game/anime”, So this new project could be, not only a completely new title, but an anime adaptation, something that makes sense, since in this trailer it was also revealed that an anime film Gravity Rush is in development.
Without a doubt, this announcement will delight all fans of the series. We are not only facing a possible remake of the original Pataponbut Ratatanan indie game created by the original team of Pataponis already in development, and will arrive on the PlayStation in a yet to be determined future. Now we just have to wait to have more information about it. In related topics, you can learn more about the film Gravity Rush here. Likewise, it seems that Sony has already won the console war.
Editor's Note.
The idea of seeing a new Patapon was something that sounded impossible a year ago. Jim Ryan's vision for PlayStation had no place for small-scale Japanese games, like what Japan Studios was doing, but after his departure from the company, it seems that this is a possibility now. Let's hope his replacement has a vision that manages to find harmony between large-scale AAA productions, and something like a Patapon remake.
