As we already learned at the beginning of the year, the entire PlayStation London Studiowhich it was permanently closed and official today, as demonstrated by thefarewell published by the team on X with a message.
“For over 20 years, London Studio has been home to some incredibly talented and wonderful people within the games industry,” wrote the team’s official X account. “As we close our doors, and we will go on to new adventures, we wanted to send you a heartfelt message thanksto all the players and colleagues past and present, who have supported us over the years.”
“We had a wonderful and incredible journey”, the message concludes, with a greeting emoji and a blue heart, as well as a beautiful image that mixes various things associated with past and canceled projects of the team.
The ongoing project was also cancelled
The news of the closure of the London Studio was given by Sony in February, as part of a restructuring that also involved 900 layoffsor approximately 8% of the PlayStation division’s workforce.
Before the closure, London Studio was working on a game for PS5 which not much was known about, but it was supposed to have online multiplayer components and be set in a fantasy version of London, with some pretty interesting concepts emerging in the past.
It was supposed to be the team’s “most ambitious” game yet, in the words of bosses Stuart Whyte and Tara Saunders, but this will never see the light of day, having been canceled with all the work underway at London Studio.
Previously, the team had worked on some smaller but very popular series for Sony PlayStation, such as SingStar and some titles for the EyeToy accessory.
