According to official licenses from Sony which date back to the last period, it seems that the company could put on the market of cover officers for PlayStation 5 so that users can customize their own copies of the console.
This is not something never touched before: some time ago the major of the Land of the Rising Sun resorted to legal actions against the Canadian Dbrand, which had unofficially presented its faceplate models for PS5. Nonetheless, the American company has made other versions that did not risk a design infringement.
We do not know if it is in response to this type of events, but apparently the Japanese giant is putting on the table the idea of allow players to officially customize your PlayStation 5. The whole thing emerged from a license that went through theUSPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office).
The document would describe the ornamental design for a cover intended for an electronic device. As if that weren’t enough, the documents also offer images of the object in question from different angles. You can watch them below:
Despite the fact that these are black and white silhouettes, it is quite evident that the project at the heart of the Sony license is precisely about the basis for a cover model for PlayStation 5.
As mentioned above, this could be a response from Sony for avoid that they can be repeated situations like with Dbrand or other companies. Beyond all this, we still don’t have an official confirmation from the Japanese major.
This is not the first time that a custom PlayStation 5 accessory has been blocked by Sony, there was for example the case of the bizarre McDonald’s custom controller.
Not only customizations, because according to what emerged from a report, there seem to be important problems regarding the stocks of the console, due to the scarcity of materials. Link to our dedicated article to find out more.
