The crash of a small plane in the southern area of Teresina (PI) on the morning of this Sunday (8.Sep.2024) left two people seriously injured. The pilot of the aircraft, doctor Jacinto Barbosa Lay, 50 years old, and Keiliane Pereira dos Santos, 27 years old, who was on a motorcycle, were the victims.
Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service) helped the victims, taking them to the Teresina Emergency Hospital, according to the G1.
The hospital stated that the doctor arrived in serious condition, was intubated at the scene of the accident and diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and leg fractures. Keiliane also has a traumatic brain injury and is in serious but stable condition.
“The two patients who suffered multiple injuries were evaluated by several specialists and underwent all the necessary tests. One of them underwent surgery and will be transferred to the private health system at the family’s request. The other is in the ICU at the Teresina Emergency Hospital.”the hospital reported.
The plane also hit a passenger van on BR-316, in the Lourival Parente neighborhood. The vehicle was carrying the driver, businessman José Ribamar Furtado do Nascimento, his wife, and two grandchildren, aged 6 and 3. According to the Fire Department, no one was injured.
Witnesses reported that the pilot was attempting a forced landing on BR-316 when he collided with the van and the motorcycle. Authorities responded to the scene, isolating the area and cooling the plane to prevent it from exploding.
This accident was not the first involving doctor Jacinto Barbosa Lay. In March 2023, in Timon (MA), the plane he was in crashed without causing serious injuries after a piece of the window came loose. He then needed ankle surgery to recover from the fracture he suffered.
