Autumn brings with it the first previews of Google’s next smartphones. After the rumors about the Pixel 8A at the beginning of the year, now it’s the turn of the Pixel 9Athe company’s future mid-range device. But this time, images leaked online show a significant change in design, which could mark a turning point for the Pixel line.
The most obvious innovation concerns the rear camera. The Pixel 9A abandons the iconic horizontal bar that has characterized Pixel models in recent years, opting for a pill-shaped module that houses two cameras, positioned almost flush with the rear body. The LED flash is placed on the right, giving the device a look reminiscent of the iPhone 7 Plus, but in a larger version.
The rest of the Pixel 9A’s body appears to follow the lines of the Pixel 9 models and current iPhones, with thin bezels around the screen. This stylistic choice could indicate Google’s desire to align itself with market trends, while maintaining some distinctive elements.
According to rumors, the Pixel 9A could launch with Android 15 pre-installed and could be the last Google device to use a Tensor chip based on Samsung technology. It is expected that Google will switch to the production of TSMC processors starting from 2025.
As for the release date, Google usually presents its A-series smartphones in the spring, during the Google I/O event. However, the wait may be shorter than expected. The company has significantly anticipated the release of the Pixel 9 Series this year and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Pixel 9A released by the end of the year, coinciding with the publication of Android 15, also on Google Pixel 9, Pro, XL and Fold
