Conmebol confirmed it through a statement, valid for the Copa America 2024 to be held in the United States starting in June.

“Nevertheless, If a normal substitution is made at the same time as a concussion substitution, one substitution opportunity will be deducted. When a team has used all regular substitution opportunities, it may not use a concussion substitution to make a regular substitution,” the protocol clarifies.

“Once the match is over, within a maximum period of 24 hours, It will be mandatory for the team doctor who has detected this suspected concussion on the field of play and whether or not he has replaced the player, to send the SCAT5 form. (standardized tool to evaluate concussions), complete and signed by himself, to the Conmebol medical commission,” the statement concludes.

In this way, Conmebol adheres to the modifications to the rules of the game approved by the IFAB (International Board) in March and incorporated by the FIFA starting in July.
