The photographic exhibition where does hope live, which runs until November 28 at Casa das Rosas, in São Paulo, travels through the homes of different families spread across 12 countries, portraying cultures and memories. Admission is free.
The exhibition, a fragment of the photographic collection of more than 6,000 photos by the Habitat for Humanity organization, brings together more than 70 images recorded by professional and amateur photographers that portray characters and refer to a variety of ethnicities and cultures.
“The trip around the world that this exhibition gives us is a call to reflect on our differences and similarities, sharing the planet where we live. It is also an invitation to act in the construction of a more democratic world with social justice. There are many scenarios, but hope unites us in each dream, in each achievement, in each home”, said, in a statement, Mário Vieira, executive director of Habitat para a Humanidade Brasil.
Reflection
The exhibition provides thinking about the right to housing, in which people are invited to reflect on privileges and empathy for the cause. “In Brazil alone, more than 25 million homes are in inadequate housing conditions. In the global scenario, more than 20% of the population lives in precarious conditions and exposed to health risks”, informed Habitat.
To portray places in Brazil, the organization brought together the work of six photographers and invited two Brazilian professionals who will make unpublished records for the exhibition, in two places where the organization has projects.
Maíra Erlich photographed rural areas in the semiarid region of Pernambuco, in Riacho das Almas, where the organization has been developing solutions for access to drinking water for over ten years and, more recently, an initiative that brought bathrooms to families without access to basic sanitation.
Photographer Rodrigo Zaim portrayed families in the community of Heliópolis, in São Paulo, where the organization works to improve housing. Zaim also photographed people living on the streets in the center of São Paulo, showing that access to decent housing is still far from many people.
