Although ownership of Call of Duty is now in the hands of Microsoft, Phil Spencer, head of Xboxdoes not want to limit this series and its content to a single audience, so during their presentation they confirmed that Black Ops 6 will not only be available on PlayStation consoles, but that all content will be available at the same time on all platforms. This message is something that the manager made clear by directly attacking Sony’s exclusivity practices.
During an interview with IGN, Spencer made a comment where, although he does not mention PlayStation, he makes it clear that he was not happy with the content exclusivity that existed between Sony and Activision for a couple of years, something he called “viscous”. This is what he said about it:
“It’s a choice. We didn’t tell anyone ‘you have to subscribe to play’. If you want to buy Black Ops 6, great. It’s great for us, it’s great for the developer. If you want to subscribe, that’s great too. I want to give them the choice of how to play the games and who to play with, and not try to do slimy platform stuff to force you to do what I want you to do.”
In 2015, Activision and PlayStation began a long relationship where content such as betas, DLC, maps and much more arrived first on Sony consoles. While all of this eventually came to Xbox and PC, the temporary exclusivity was a move that forced many players to buy the PlayStation version to have access to all the new features from day one.
With his recent statements, Phil Spencer has made it clear that this will no longer happen. Although he had the opportunity to do the same, and bring exclusive content to Xbox and PC, leaving PlayStation behind, the manager wants everyone to enjoy a single experience at the same time.
We remind you that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 It will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as day one on Game Pass, on October 25, 2024. Author’s Note:
This is good news for all Call of Duty fans. Now they can enjoy all the content at the same time no matter what platform they are on. Let’s remember that the deal with PlayStation is for 10 years, so it will be interesting to see what will happen once this period ends.
