Pfizer does not leave Catania, but the institutions are asking to withdraw the layoffs
The regional crisis table on the case took place at the Prefecture of Catania Pfizer Italy, whose banned intention to move from Sicily to the Marche puts the future of 130 workers at risk. During the meeting, the pharmaceutical company stated that it wanted to stay on the island, with an investment plan from 27 million euros in three years, but at the same time confirmed the redundancies. Region, trade unions and politics ask Pfizer to demonstrate its intention to remain in Sicily withdrawing the collective redundancy procedurewaiting to present the industrial plan for the Catania plant.
The Sicilian Region also reproached Pfizer for not having formally communicated its intention to dismiss and therefore requested to receive a report on the point within a week. Representatives of CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL underlined how Pfizer had a turnover in 2021 36 billion dollars and for 2022 it foresees an income of 28 billion: “Pfizer, which in the world contributes to saving many human lives, in one fell swoop decrees the death of Catania”.
The former Minister of Labor was also present at the meeting Nunzia Catalfo (M5S), who explains: “I certainly guarantee my personal commitment as a parliamentarian and also that of the national government of the Mise. The situation is worrying and because in addition to the redundancies there seems to be a lack of an industrial plan. It is incomprehensible how a company that is investing and earning on a national level could neglect a historic site like the one in Catania. All institutional interlocutions must be initiated to avoid these and other redundancies ”.
