Corporation says it found evidence of diversion of resources from parliamentary amendments to “obtain undue advantages”
A Federal Police (Federal Police) asked on Thursday (May 23, 2024) the STF (Supreme Federal Court) the opening of a new investigation against the federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (União Brasil-RJ), who is in prison due to investigations into the murder, in Rio, of the councilor Marielle Franco (Psol-RJ) and driver Anderson Gomes.
In the request sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case at the STF, the PF says that it found evidence of diversion of resources from parliamentary amendments to “obtaining undue advantages” by the deputy.
The evidence was found on cell phones and computers seized by the PF during the operation in which Chiquinho, his brother, Domingos Brazão, who is an advisor to the TCE-RJ (Court of Auditors of Rio de Janeiro), and former Civil Police Chief Rivaldo Barbosa were arrested in March on charges of participating in Marielle’s murder.
REASONS
“In view of the eloquence of evidence of crimes against public administration possibly committed by federal parliamentarians in the exercise of their respective mandates, it is necessary to authorize the opening of an investigation to investigate such conduct with this STF”wrote the Federal Police.
The request to open the investigation will be analyzed by Moraes. There is no scheduled date for the decision.
A Brazil Agency sought Chiquinho Brazão’s defense and is awaiting a response.
