The price of diesel and gasoline hadn’t reached such high levels since 2012. So recalled Assoutenti, denouncing the significant increase in fuel prices. The increases weigh on the accounts of those who travel a lot for work.
“The new fuel records are producing cascading increases in the retail prices of a multitude of products these days, and weigh like a boulder on the pockets of Italians. The combined utility bill / gasoline will have enormous effects on citizens’ purchasing powerand risks causing a sharp decline in household consumption in 2022»Said Furio Truzzi, president of Assoutenti. The association asks the government to intervene on excise duties and VAT, to avert further economic crises.
From the beginning of the year 2022, in about a month and a half, a liter of petrol would be increased by more than 11 cents, equal to 5.78 euros for a full tank of 50 liters; while a liter of diesel costs over 12 cents more, 6.14 euros per refueling. There are several international tensions to be addressed, in particular the Ukrainian crisis. But every day the negotiations, carried out by the various countries, are held in order to try to be less dependent on the energy of others. The exchanges of this period have fostered a certain instability. Obviously due to the high entry prices, few are switching to electric in the car. And electricity bills have also experienced increases: as a result it is very difficult to get around the extra costs. In general, the fleet is not renewing itself at the necessary pace. In fact, there are still many cars that ‘drink’ a lot of fuel, unlike the more recent models which enjoy greater efficiency.
On the sidelines, as reported by the newspaper La Stampa, there is also the dear methane. “Trade associations such as Federmetano and Assogasmetano have launched an online petition. The goal is to encourage the government to act to protect the sector and those who have chosen methane-powered mobility. The request is for a VAT reduction from 22% to 5% also for methane for automotive use (already granted for other uses of civil and industrial gas) and a tax credit for transport companies that use gas vehicles natural, with 20,000 workers employed in the methane supply chain“.
