Peru’s attorney general, Patricia Benavides, filed a constitutional complaint in Congress this Tuesday (11) against the country’s president, Pedro Castillo, for allegedly leading a criminal organization, for influence peddling and complicity in fraudulent contract concessions. of public works.
The announcement was made by the Public Ministry on social networks. The complaint must now be evaluated by the Congressional Subcommittee on Constitutional Charges, which, if it deems it admissible, will refer it to the Standing Committee for consideration before it goes to vote in plenary.
According to the document sent to Parliament, the attorney general accuses Castillo of crimes against the public administration in the form of aggravated influence peddling and of being an accomplice to crimes against the public administration in the form of collusion.
Castillo has accumulated six preliminary investigations by the Public Ministry since he took office in July 2021. Five of them are in charge of Benavides and are due to events related to the government, and the other is in the hands of the Public Ministry of the La Libertad region, who investigates him for alleged plagiarism in a master’s thesis he did together with the First Lady.
