Peru: nephew of former president Castillo, fugitive for almost two years for corruption, captured

The Peruvian authorities arrested this Monday Fray Vásquez Castillo, nephew of former president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022), He has been a fugitive from justice for almost two years after being included in the investigations opened against the former president for alleged corruption, the Prosecutor's Office and the Police reported.

“In (the southern department of) Puno, the Special Team of Prosecutors against the Corruption of Power, made up of prosecutors and police, managed to hand over the investigated Fray Vásquez Castillo, nephew of former president Pedro Castillo Terrones, who was a fugitive from justice for almost 2 years,” the Public Ministry wrote on the social network

The Prosecutor's Office is investigating Castillo's nephew for the alleged commission of the crimes of criminal organization, aggravated collusion, use of false documents, false declaration in administrative procedure and influence peddling.

Vásquez Castillo arrived in Lima under arrest, thanks to coordinated work between the Peruvian authorities, said the General Commander of the Police, Víctor Zanabria.

“Once again, professional and coordinated work is evident with which one of the most wanted people, who has been hidden from Justice for more than 500 days, has been given rights,” Zanabria told the press.

Former Transport Minister Juan Silva, who remains a fugitive from justice, was also included in this alleged corruption plot.
