In Atlus' future plans there is no re-release of Persona 3 Royal which will include improvements, new stories or exclusive additional contentcontrary to what we have seen for the previous chapters of the JRPG series.
The confirmation comes from production manager Kazuhisa Wada, who in an interview with GamerWK (translated into English by Persona Central), stated: “Currently, We are not considering a review for Persona 3 Reload like the one from Persona 5 to Persona 5 Royal, which involved significant changes and additions to the original title,” Wada said.
“Fans can rest easy knowing that Persona 3 Reload delivers a complete experience.”
Goodbye to Persona reissues?
Wada's clarification is certainly important, given that in the past there have been re-releases of previous games in the series with modifications and new content that expanded the story. Indeed, in the case of Persona 3 there were two, Persona 3 FES and Portable.
More recently, Persona 5 Royal compared to the original version added, among other things, a new playable character, a new story and various changes to the gameplay, as well as Italian subtitles, all content that could be added via free updates or expansions for the base game, but which on the contrary were tied behind the purchase of a new edition.
If this practice was tolerated in the past (after all, it was very widespread among Japanese productions, including Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy) when DLC and updates did not yet exist, today it is understandably not looked upon favorably, especially in a particular case such as a remake.
That said, according to some dataminers, paid DLC is on the way that will also include important content, such as The Answer epilogue, so it's possible that players will still have to shell out extra for the “full experience”. In any case, certainly better than having to buy the game again.
