Pentagon pulls aircraft carriers to Taiwan ahead of Pelosi visit

Nikei Asia says Pentagon pulls aircraft carriers to Taiwan ahead of Pelosi visit

In anticipation of a possible visit by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, the Pentagon began to gather additional forces, including aircraft carriers, to Taiwan, writes Nikei Asia.

“The military was initially opposed to the speaker’s visit, but now appears to be creating a buffer zone for Pelosi’s plane in case she does decide to fly to Taiwan,” the report said.

It was previously reported that Pelosi could arrive in Taiwan on August 2. According to the China Times, the politician can spend the night on the island and the next day meet with the head of the local administration, Tsai Ing-wen.

On July 26, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Tan Kefei recalled that the United States promised not to support Taiwan’s independence, so China demands to confirm this with real actions. He warned that the Chinese military would not sit idly by if Pelosi visited the island.
