Both Atlético Nacional, the team in which he emerged as a footballer in the late 70s, and Independiente Medellín, which he won champion in 2004-I, published a message on their social networks inviting people to donate type A+ blood for Sarmiento.
Relatives of the coach and journalists close to him also spoke out, such as Mauricio González Arteaga, from Gente, Pasión y Fútbol, and Ricardo Orrego, with whom he shared microphones at Gol Caracol.
How to donate blood for Pedro Sarmiento
Sarmiento debuted as a footballer in Atlético Nacional in 1977 and was part of the champion team in 1981. In 1985 he moved to América de Cali and with that club he retired in 1987. He played for the Colombian National Team in two qualifiers, those for the World Cup in Spain. 1982 and Mexico 1986.
After his retirement he joined the América coaching staff and later became champion as coach with Medellín in 2004-I and with Deportivo Cali in 2005-II. He also directed Santa Fe, Cúcuta, Pereira, Envigado, Águilas Doradas, Unión Magdalena, Nacional and Once Caldas.
