PC Gaming on Smartphone? It can be done, here’s how Fallout 4 works

Smartphones of recent years are often equipped, especially at the high end, with very powerful hardware, so much so that in most cases it is difficult to fully exploit the capabilities of the highest performing SoCs.
Thanks to a device equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and the clever use of an emulator, a YouTuber managed to run Fallout 4 for PC with good results. Here is the curious experiment.

YouTuber ETA Prime managed to run Fallout 4 for PC on a smartphone equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, all thanks to the use of Winlator: this application is capable of emulating PC games on some of the latest mobile devices, provided you have a supported chip and use DMR-free titles. Finally, some changes need to be made to the game files.

The results obtained by the content creator are quite good and as can be seen from the video published on the well-known Google platform, Fallout 4 runs on a Redmagic 8 Pro with a framerate that hovers between 30 and 40 FPS. The creator then confirmed that the game also works well on Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, promising further tests when support is expanded to new devices.

A good starting point

This kind of “experiments” are certainly nothing new, but with the advancement of technology and the improvement of the software used, the results obtained gradually become more and more interesting.
The mobile segment has seen recently the arrival of handheld devices, a clear signal of the great possibilities offered by this market. Being able to play our favorite titles using the smartphones we already own, without going through the cloud, could therefore become a concrete possibility, net of the aforementioned limitations.

Precisely to underline the great appeal of the mobile segment, it seems that NVIDIA and MediaTek are working on a new chip dedicated to gaming and intended for handheld devices.
