The senator stated that the new statute aims to promote social and labor rights for a fairer society
The senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS) highlighted on Tuesday (April 30, 2024) the importance of creating the Labor Statute. The institution of the statute, called New CLT, is proposed in a legislative suggestion (SUG 12, 2018) which is being processed by the Human Rights Commission, with Paim reporting.
The congressman stated that the new statute is a path in the search for human dignity, based on the promotion of social and labor rights, aiming to build a more just, fraternal, supportive and democratic society. It is also a response to the precariousness of the world of work caused by the 2017 labor reform, which removed rights, said the senator.
Paim highlighted that the statute will not only deal with remuneration, but also issues such as the prohibition of outsourcing in core activities, compliance with the equal pay project between men and women, the rejection of intermittent work and the reduction of working hours . According to the senator, the text will regulate the right to strike, in addition to combating slave labor, slavery, child labor and moral and sexual harassment.
“It will also deal with how other areas work and how they can work: time bank, external work, teleworking, work via app, rest period, food area, vacations, salary policies, minimum wage, salary equality, the cool additions that, throughout history, have been built. Of course, it will address the woman’s employment situation, for example, maternity leave. Prior notice, severance pay for everyone, men and women, trade union organization, among many other topics. […] We are fighting hard to increase the salary of retirees and pensioners.”
The senator ended his speech by congratulating the workers “from the countryside and the city” for Labor Day, celebrated this Wednesday, May 1st.
