At first glance, it seems like a faux pas – because many viewers are wondering if the new British Prime Minister is dancing in the clip.
LONDON – Two different monarchs and three different prime ministers ruled the United Kingdom as early as 2022. Hope now lies with the new prime minister and former finance minister Rishi Sunak, who promised in his inaugural speech to ensure economic stability and confidence. Meanwhile, a video is circulating on the Internet that is supposed to show Sunak partying exuberantly in Ibiza. After Boris Johnson’s “Partygate affair”, the public is probably used to a lot from British prime ministers – but fortunately only Sunak’s “double” dances in Ibiza.
Rishi Sunak’s doppelganger celebrates in Ibiza
The previous Prime Minister, Liz Truss, had set a negative record for the shortest term in office at just 44 days and was even “beaten” by a head of lettuce that outlasted her. It was not until Tuesday (October 25) that Rishi Sunak took over from his predecessor. Even by British standards, the first scandal after three days would be a new record. But what about the party video?
As early as July, the owner of a famous party club on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza shared a video on Instagram in which he supposedly saw British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak dancing. “Rishi Sunak is trying to win over the people of Ibiza today and is campaigning for votes,” wrote the club owner jokingly.
Of course, it’s not Sunak himself who dances in the video. But the man with an orange drinking cup in his hand actually looks very much like the British prime minister. Apparently so much that some Instagram users are confused in the comments as to whether the politician himself can actually be seen celebrating in Ibiza.
Rishi Sunak with unprecedented political rise, but not without scandals
Rishi Sunak made history by becoming Britain’s first non-white Prime Minister. Before that, Sunak had made an unprecedented political ascent. He was elected to Parliament for the first time in 2015 and moved to Downing Street just seven years later – no prime minister in recent history has done so quickly.
However, the married father of two daughters had to overcome a number of obstacles. In the “Partygate” affair about lockdown celebrations in Downing Street, for example, he was fined for breaking the corona rules. Sunak, a member of the government, also held a green card for the United States for years and his wealthy wife Akshata Murty saved millions of pounds in taxes thanks to a legal loophole.
Sunak and his wife are multi-millionaires – wealthier than Prince Charles – and own several properties. There was even speculation as to whether the family would even use the official residence at 10 Downing Street.
