The 20th session of the Dubai International Relief and Development Exhibition and Conference “DIHAD 2024”, which is held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, concluded with remarkable success.
Last week, during the Dubai International Relief and Development Exhibition and Conference (DIHAD 2024), the Emirate of Dubai attracted many specialists and activists in the humanitarian field, and representatives of the most prominent humanitarian agencies. The event witnessed an unparalleled presence and great representation of the most prominent regional and international humanitarian agencies. This year’s session was marked by record successes, including the formation of the DIHAD International Humanitarian Alliance and the launch of the World Summit on Education for Development.
This year’s session concluded with record meetings estimated at more than 1,390 meetings between participating institutions, where more than 900 international non-governmental organizations and humanitarian associations, in addition to agencies supplying relief materials, reviewed their services and activities in the field of volunteer and humanitarian work.
The DIHAD Exhibition and Conference was held this year under the slogan “Diplomacy and the Culture of Humanitarian Work… A Look to the Future.” The Kingdom of Norway was the guest of honor this year and has been a main partner of the DIHAD Conference and Exhibition for 20 years. DIHAD attracted more than 16,000 participants and visitors from 154 countries, and more than 106 buyers from United Nations agencies, leading institutions, charities and humanitarian institutions from around the world, in addition to 131 speakers from an elite group of specialists in the humanitarian field around the world. Its program discussed vital topics during 24 main sessions, in addition to 144 innovative workshops that provided training and examined many opinions and solutions of importance in the field of humanitarian diplomacy.
Rich human history
The United Arab Emirates has a long humanitarian history in charitable work, and therefore “DIHAD” seeks to strengthen the state’s role in this field in accordance with the vision of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the foundations of which were laid by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him.
In this context, Ambassador Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Ambassador of the Mediterranean Parliament to the Gulf Cooperation Council region, President of the Sustainable Humanitarian Organization “DIHAD” and President of “Desab,” praised the comprehensive system of the humanitarian sector in the UAE and the outstanding efforts of the institutions participating in the event, saying “The UAE has always been a pioneer in charitable work, and history records in golden letters its constant giving, as it is concerned with promoting charitable work for all of humanity. Therefore, our efforts in DIHAD are not limited to providing momentary charitable support only, but rather we always seek to enhance the concept of sustainability in the humanitarian and relief field.” development and creating a more effective and efficient charitable sector. In its session this year, DIHAD attracted official decision-makers from leading non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, relief organizations and government bodies, along with private sector aid, education and construction providers, to address the needs of individuals and countries affected by crises and natural disasters.
Emphasis was placed on the reasons why humanitarian diplomacy is the ideal means of resolving conflicts and supporting those affected by disasters, especially in light of the pioneering role played by the UAE in addressing global challenges and its adoption of a sustainable humanitarian diplomatic approach.
A forward-looking vision
Ambassador Sergio Piazzi, Secretary General of the Mediterranean Parliament, said that “DIHAD” has been a source of inspiration in the charitable sector over the past two decades, as the event focused on the role of humanitarian diplomacy as an essential part of a wide range of diplomatic initiatives, including sports, climate and Parliament. How to apply this humanitarian diplomacy on the ground by creating opportunities and overcoming challenges to provide humanitarian assistance. Moreover, Ambassador Sergio Piazzi also referred to the role of DIHAD as a humanitarian beacon for exchanging experiences and new initiatives, and for interacting with partners to strengthen the connection with young people working in the humanitarian sector.
