Parliament|According to Director of Administration Rauhio, the Parliament’s chancellery committee will consider the petition on Thursday of next week.
Parliamentary to the administrative director Pertti Rauhio a petition was handed in on Thursday, which wants to prevent the storage of weapons in the parliament. As petition signatories there were 79 civil servants working in the parliament and employees of group offices, but no MPs.
The Parliament has had the opportunity to store weapons in a weapons storage facility managed by the Parliament’s security department. Gun storage was made public by the former member of parliament of the Basic Finns Timo Vornasen in connection with the shooting incident in April. Gun storage is intended, for example, for storing hunting weapons.
Vornanen fired a warning shot into the ground in connection with a dispute that arose at the end of a restaurant evening. The incident happened in front of a karaoke bar near the parliament.
In his press conference earlier this week, Vornanen did not answer the question about whether he had a gun with him in the parliament that day. According to the Parliament, Vornanen had not left the weapon in storage on the day in question.
According to Rauhio, the petition will proceed to the parliament’s chancellery committee for consideration next Thursday.
“The chancellery committee will then take a position on the petition,” Rauhio told STT.
According to Rauhio, the chancellery committee comes up with various initiatives infrequently, a few times a year.
According to Rauhio, there are about 800 employees in the parliament, which means that the petition was signed by about a tenth of the employees.
