Parking|Ballet dancer Minna Tervamäki found herself in a difficult situation while trying to park in Helsinki’s Kallio.
Ballet dancer Minna Tervamäki was doing pocket parking in Kallio when every motorist’s nightmare happened to him. Someone took a parking spot right in front of his nose on the otherwise cramped streets. That started an avalanche of unfortunate events.
In the situation, according to Tervamäki’s own words, sweat was on and the passenger was a small puppy in addition to himself.
Pocket parking on a narrow street causes a cold sweat to run down the back of many motorists.
Tarvamäki this time the performance did not go exactly as planned. Tervamäki was already withdrawing to the spot, when another car unexpectedly managed to take the spot right in front of him.
Scared by the situation, Tervamäki was supposed to go forward, but the car went backwards and ended up too close to another vehicle parked on the street.
After getting out of the car, Tervamäki noticed to his dismay that the other car had a small dent.

In addition to shame, Tervamäki felt sorry for the owner of the damaged car. So he didn’t for a moment consider the solution favored by some others: run away from the scene.
Getaway was not an option and the note left on the windshield of the battered car was not enough for Tervamäki. Tervamäki began quite large-scale detective work to find out the owner of the crashed car.
If I had acted differently, the owner of the other car would certainly have felt bad, Tervamäki reflects.
That’s what insurance is for, that such situations can be handled, Tervamäki explains.
First, Tervamäki looked for the name of the car’s owner, it was found using the registration number. Several different services offer information about the owner with just the registration number.
After this, Tervamäki found the right person through social media, who turned out to be a resident of the area. Through Some, Tervamäki was in immediate contact with the owner of the other car.
Sheet metal rattling when parking is not unusual.
A large proportion of traffic accidents occur in parking lots, gas stations, yards and similar areas.
In 2022, according to insurance companies’ traffic accident statistics, a total of 45 percent of damages occurred in these areas.
To Tervamäki it was obvious that one must take responsibility for one’s actions. He considers consideration of other people important and appreciates small everyday good deeds.
“We would all be more comfortable if we took each other into account. It often doesn’t take terribly much.”
Tarvamäki the failed parking attempt finally ended peacefully.
He returned from his errands to the scene of the accident with his dog and by chance recognized the car he had crashed in motion. He signaled the car to stop and was thus able to settle the matter face to face.
Tervamäki says that the owner of the other car thanked him afterwards for taking care of the matter so quickly.

Although the ending was happy, Tervamäki hopes that there will be no more collisions in the future.
“In the future, I intend to strive for caution.”
