Paris 2024 Olympics: Italy’s medals live | August 8, 2024
Italy has won 28 medals so far at the Paris Olympics 2024: nine golds, ten silvers and nine bronzes. Today, Thursday 8 August, the day opened with the bronze of Ginevra Taddeucci in the 10 km long distance swimming race held in the waters of the Seine.
The 24-year-old Florentine placed third behind Dutch Sharon van Rouwendaal and Australian Moesha Johnson. Giulia Gabbrielleschi also did well, finishing sixth.
The semi-final of the men’s 4×100 relay is scheduled for this morning: Melluzzo, Jacobs, Desalu and Tortu will compete for Italy.
In the afternoon, the Ruggero Tita-Caterina Banti duo could bring Italy a gold medal in the mixed multihull final (a race postponed yesterday due to lack of wind).
Great disappointment yesterday evening for the Italian men’s volleyball team, defeated in the semifinals by the hosts France: the Azzurri will play for the bronze tomorrow night against the United States. The Settebello team was also eliminated in the men’s water polo team, knocked out by Hungary in the quarterfinals in a match marked by controversy over referee decisions.
Bronze medal, instead, in track cycling with Filippo Ganna, Simone Consonni, Francesco Lamon and Jonathan Milan who beat Denmark in the team pursuit.
Yesterday morning Gianmarco Tamberi made his debut on the platform after the health problems of the last few days. The Italian athlete – finally fever-free – made three mistakes but still managed to access the high jump final, scheduled for Saturday. Stefano Sottile also qualified.
