Mourning in the world of theatre. The actress Paola Gassman, eldest daughter of Vittorio Gassman and Nora Ricci, has died at the age of 78. The sad news was given by her lifelong partner, the actor Ugo Pagliai, together with his children Simona and Tommaso and the whole family.
Paola Gassman had been ill for some time. “Hello my sister. You have always been the wisest of all of us, the most reassuring, the most balanced and nice. I will always love you, like everyone who knew you,” she wrote on X his brother Alessandro Gassman, born from the relationship between Vittorio and the French actress Juliette Mayniel.
Born in Milan on 29 June 1945, Paola Gassman graduated in 1968 from the Silvio D'Amico Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome and since then has dedicated herself mainly to theatre.
At the beginning of his career he worked for three years in the Teatro Libero company, directed by Luca Ronconi, with whom he staged the show “Orlando furioso”, which also landed in the United States and then became a popular television drama.
Among his most significant shows are “Wesker's Kitchen” directed by Lina Wertmuller, “Spectres” by Ibsen, “Family Trial” by Diego Fabbri, “Caesar or Nobody” and “The Theater Hurts”, in which was directed by his father Vittorio Gassman.
With the Pagliai-Gassman theater company he has staged many shows in both the dramatic and comic genres, interpreting classics by Pirandello, Goldoni and Shakespeare. And he has worked with directors of the caliber of Squarzina, Castri, Bolognini, Piccardi, Sciaccaluga, Ronconi, Maccarinelli.
