The families of the female soldiers expressed their hope that the footage would put pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to a truce with Hamas and release the hostages.
The footage shows the women, some of them covered in blood, being detained.
Hamas considered the video to be fragmentary and tampered with.
What does the video include?
In the footage, which lasts more than three minutes and is taken from a two-hour video filmed by Hamas fighters, according to the families, the female soldiers, some with their faces bloodied, are shown sitting on the floor in their pajamas with their hands tied behind their backs.
Some of them tried to speak to the Hamas fighters in English, with signs of panic visible on their faces.
After that, amid the shouts of Hamas members, they were transported in a military jeep, under heavy gunfire.
The goal of publishing the video
“It is time to act, otherwise the blood of my sister and the other hostages will be at the hands of the Israeli government,” said Sasha Arif, 24, the sister of one of the female soldiers, Karina Arif.
She added: “Everyone has now seen the female soldiers in their nightclothes being kidnapped (…) The only victory is to free them quickly and alive.”
For her, broadcasting this footage “should constitute a radical shift” in the government’s decisions.
The Hostage Families Forum confirmed in a statement that “the footage shows the violent, humiliating and shocking treatment to which female soldiers were subjected to the day they were captured.”
The video increases Netanyahu’s determination to fight
For his part, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on his Telegram account, “These footage will strengthen my determination to move forward with all my might until Hamas is eliminated, to ensure that what we saw tonight will never be repeated.”
His office later said in a statement that the war cabinet had asked the Israeli negotiating team to “continue negotiations for the return of the hostages.”
The statement explained, “The video clip, which lasts three minutes and 10 seconds, was censored to delete the most cruel footage, such as the killing of many young men and women at the Nahal Oz base, in addition to many scenes that include great brutality.”
More than 50 soldiers were killed on October 7 at the Nahal Oz base, which was attacked by Hamas members.
Hamas responded
For its part, the Hamas movement denounced in a statement published on Wednesday evening the “manipulation” of the video, stressing that there was “deliberate cutting and cutting of the scenes and the selection of images and clips to support the occupation’s allegations and lies of attacking female soldiers” and “distorting the image of our people’s resistance.”
The Palestinian movement added, “The presence of traces of small blood or minor injuries for some of the female soldiers is something expected in such operations, and the stampeding that may be marred by them, and the scenes did not show any physical assault on any of them.”
