A survey by Rabobank indicated that during the pandemic the Brazilian continued to buy coffee even with the closing of coffee shops and the increase in the price of the drink. Domestic demand increased 1.4% in the 2020/2021 harvest (October to September), totaling 21.4 million bags.
The projection for the next cycle is for an increase of 0.5% (the same value registered in the 2019/2020 harvest), with 21.5 million bags traded.

With a reconfiguration carried out in force, since the covid-19 pandemic forced the closure of stores across the country, online sales were responsible for supplying consumer inventories at home.
Before the pandemic, online sales accounted for 8.3% of sales, jumping to 65.5% in the first year of the pandemic compared to the previous year, according to the study sent to the newspaper Valor Econômico.
To Rabobank, it was exactly this reconfiguration of coffee drunk at home that prevented a significant drop in market demand, especially at the height of the covid-19 crisis, with lockdowns spread across Brazil.
Still, 14.4% of coffee makers were closed in these months of pandemic.
