José Doroteo Arango Arámbula was born on June 5, 1878 in La Coyotada, San Juan del Río, Durango; Three days ago it was 146 years since his birth. Pancho Villa beats in the Mexican town; Their ideals and humanism are still valid, they advance with the Fourth Transformation of Mexico. Pancho Villa’s democratic vocation was demonstrated, Villa was certain of the value of democracy, his 1914 manifesto began by pointing out that Mexicans woke up with the Maderista movement and, therefore, he would defend freedoms, accepting only governments emanating from the popular will. This represented the appropriation of democracy as a form of government.
General Villa based his struggle on two principles: a government that was democratically elected and the establishment of economic-social reforms essential to ensure the improvement of the disinherited classes, the poor, principles that he established in the Villa Manifesto in the year 1914.
Democracy makes sense when it reaches social dimensions, that is, it affirms the ethical meaning of politics: the exercise of power for the well-being of the poor, guaranteeing the rights of all sectors of the population. Villa as governor of Chihuahua, in a very short time, created fifty schools, took price control measures to ensure the people’s access to food, took care of health, among other measures in favor of the community. After being in the Mexico City, and upon observing that there were children on the street, he ordered them to be put on the train to Chihuahua and from here he sends them to the United States to study.
Already at the Canutillo hacienda, he created a school for children and another for Adults. He established better salaries for teachers than for soldiers with degrees. He stated: “I pay a teacher first than a general.” He created a library with five hundred books.
Villa’s legacy of social democracy was affirmed in Mexico in 2018 with the electoral victory of Andrés Manuel López Obradorand its continuity was confirmed last Sunday, June 2, with the peaceful, democratic results and the firm conviction of the people of Mexico, a town that has become politicized, in a social environment that fosters policies towards equality and well-being through justice and solidarity humanism. Equality was the meaning of General Villa’s fight in the revolutionary movement.
The electoral result of June 2 means the qualification of President AMLO: he has the high recognition — indisputable — of the people. Claudia is already the elected president of Mexico, after 200 years of establishing the Mexican Republic, a leftist woman will assume the Presidency, and she will also be the first female president in North America; AMLOundisputed leader of the Fourth Transformation of public life in Mexico, a transformation to, as the president says, strengthen “Democracy in a social dimension,” and continue to guarantee that for the good of all, the poor come first.
As General Villa hopefully stated: “It would be magnificent, I think, to help make Mexico a happy place”, – his legacy calls us to fight for a country of democratic left, of the other politics, that of human love.
