Panasonic intends to build a battery plant for Tesla electric vehicles in Kansas City, USA. The new plant will create 4,000 new jobs, announced on July 14 edition carbuzz.com.
According to the publication, the new facility will be the world’s largest plant for the production of batteries for electric vehicles.
“As the largest private investment in Kansas history and one of the largest electric vehicle battery plants in the country, this project will transform our state’s economy, creating a total of 8,000 high-quality jobs,” said Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly.
The new plant will produce lithium-ion batteries.
The Panasonic 4680 battery pack is rated by the company as the next step in battery technology, as it is about the size of a medium-sized soda can.
According to Panasonic engineers, this lithium-ion battery does not use solid-state technology, and big players such as Tesla have already begun to look at a new energy source.
It is likely that the new battery will appear in electric car companies such as the Tesla Model 3.
