The actress was awarded at the Zurich Festival and spoke of the resurgence of her career. “Being part of pop culture is a blessing and a curse.”
Directed by Gia Coppola – granddaughter of acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola – Pamela Anderson returns to film with the film The Last Showgirl. The actress was awarded the Zurich Golden Eye award. “I never thought I would be on stage receiving an award like that. I just want to keep working. “I’m excited to do more.”
Becoming a sex symbol in the 90s for playing CJ Parker, she reviewed her career. “I look at it now and I feel like I went from ‘Baywatch’ to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in the middle, everything is very blurry. “I’m happy to be here, right now, because I think I’ve had depression for a couple of decades,” he said at the festival. And in an interview with Glamor he recalled the scandal over the leak of an intimate video for which, he believes, he lost his career. “A lot of things have happened to me that I could have handled differently.”
But the award in Switzerland is part of the resurgence that began with the documentary Love Story (2023) and with the publication of her memoirs Love, Pamela. The actress commented that it was as a result of the documentary that the granddaughter of the director of The Godfather sought her out. “Ryan (White) made that documentary and that’s how Gia saw me. I always knew I was capable of doing more. It’s great to be a part of pop culture, but it’s a blessing and a curse. People fall in love with you because of a swimsuit. It took me a long time, but here I am.”
For this reason, in front of the international press, the actress questioned the industry and does not believe that it was professional to have been part of Playboy. “I don’t know if I would call it modeling,” she said. “When you grow up on an island, people don’t leave. And when you’re gone, people talk. I gave them a lot of material to make fun of me. Without charging me anything. My first scene was with David Hasselhoff. I was playing the saxophone and he was looking at my forehead. “I had no idea what to do.”
In Coppola’s film, the 57-year-old American plays a dancer who was successful in the 1980s and is now facing the decline of her career. In Las Vegas, his character will have to give up a cabaret show he did for 30 years. “I don’t think I would have been able to play this character if I hadn’t had the life I had, so it was worth it. If I can continue to work and use these struggles and challenges… I will feel blessed.” The film continues to tour festivals around the world. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto Festival and continued in San Sebastián. His next film is The Naked Gun with Liam Neeson. “I just finished it. I’m also doing Rosebud Pruning with Karim Anouz in Barcelona. We rehearsed each scene and improvised a lot on the characters; We even had family dinners in character. “Karim is incredible,” he said of the ensemble drama with Elle Fanning, Callum Turner, Riley Keough and Jamie Bell.
