Mexico.- Despite the fact that in a large part of the Mexican territory there are high levels of immunization against Covid-19, states like Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca and various rural areas of the country continue with low coverage, warned the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
at press conference virtual, Sylvain Aldighieri, Covid-19 Incident Manager for PAHO, called on the Mexican authorities not to slow down immunization, noting that, although urban areas have high levels of immunization, this work must be intensified, especially in regions where the population is indigenous.
Regarding this, the official explained that in some places such as Mexico City, 100% vaccination coverage against Covid-19 has been reached, in a very different way from what is registered in states in the south of the country.
“Vaccination coverage in three rural states with a high indigenous population such as Chiapas, Guerrero and Oaxaca, coverage is the lowest at the federal level and it is necessary to continue highlighting the benefits of the vaccine to protect these populations against serious illness and hospitalization and particularly vulnerable populations such as indigenous populations,” mentioned, Aldighieri.
This Wednesday, the National Ministry of Health reported 244 new deaths related to Covid-19, as well as 5,910 infections.
