The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, arrived this morning with a clear message. For him, in politics, the absence of walls It is a virtue. His speech clashes head-on with the one Pedro Sánchez gave at his inauguration, when he called for the erection of a wall against “the reactionary right.” The distance between the two has become evident this Wednesday, at the ABC Forum, where the only socialist baron with an absolute majority has even advocated for a reform of the Constitution promoted by PP and PSOE.
Upon his arrival at the Vocento headquarters, the Castilian-La Mancha president was received with two questions from the press. First, what do you think about the sit-in of your counterpart from the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayusoto the head of the Executive. “Respect” and silence. Next, what do you think of the exchange of votes between PP and Sumar in Congress for the consideration of two of their initiatives. There he introduced his opposition to the “wall” and stated that the normal thing between parties should be to reach agreements.
The ABC Forum, sponsored by Enoc with the collaboration of Ecoembes and the University of Castilla-La Mancha, received this Wednesday “the conscience of what the PSOE should be”, as defined by the director of this newspaper, Julián Quiros. After him, the president of Enoc, Antonio Muñoz, took the floor, claiming the social need for nursing homes, and finally, before a brief interview with Quirós, Page intervened.
With a cautious outlook, the president of Castilla-La Mancha has advocated recovering moderate Spain in the face of populism, for a pact for competitiveness, for a “serene reflection” on the Constitution, for addressing a reform of autonomous financing without privileges and to open a fiscal harmonization process that does not create competition between the territories. For all this, Page has defended that an understanding must be started between the two major national parties, PP and PSOE, and that “impositions” from a minority should not be accepted.
Among the “enemies” of the Constitution, Page has placed those who are openly so, such as the independence supporters, but also those who act as a Trojan horse by not complying with it. «In my region there are no known walls nor do we want them. “Social hatred or political vendetta are not practiced here,” he said at the first opportunity, in a message that he has constantly repeated, so that it sinks in like a drop in the rock.
«The more Vox, the more wall»
«I do not share the policy of walls, whoever builds them. If walls are built, we should consider which side we are on. The best way to avoid being on the wrong side of the wall is to draw bridges and not build walls,” he added later. “The more Vox, the more the wall,” he stressed, pointing out the “most extremist on the right” as the greatest ally of the “left-wing front.”
In the questions posed by Quirós, where he addressed current issues, Page stated that the viability of the legislature is based on “uncertainty”, but he said that “the key and the only important thing” is, contrary to what The Government has come to say until now, if there are general State budgets. He has pointed out that the fugitive Carles Puigdemont, with the seven decisive votes of Junts in Congress, has the upper hand, but, at the same time, “a dilemma.” «If you don’t approve the budget, the Government may say: ‘Oh, yeah? Well, nothing said, he just looks at Waterloo.’ And if you approve it, you are left with nothing. “You have a huge problem,” he concluded.
