Initiative comes to light about 1 month after anesthesiologist in Rio was indicted for rape of vulnerable
The Senate President, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), created a working group to unify bills that are already being processed in the House in a proposal to toughen penalties against sexual crimes.
The initiative comes to light about a month after anesthesiologist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was arrested in the act for abusing a sedated pregnant patient. He was indicted for rape of a vulnerable person.
One of the projects that will guide the work, authored by Senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), would increase the penalty for rape of vulnerable by up to ⅔ when the crime is committed by a doctor or any health professional.
Pacheco himself will preside over the group, which will have 9 more senators. The period of operation will be 30 days. He signed the institution of the body last Tuesday (16.Aug.2022), in the Diário do Senado Federal.
Here are the members of the working group:
No date has yet been set for the start of work.
As the group has two candidates for the presidency (Simone Tebet and Soraya Thronicke), 2 for governor (Alessandro Vieira and Leila Barros) and 1 for senator (Romário), there is a zero chance that it will be installed before the elections.
