This Wednesday the 30th, ‘The Anthill’ gave up its schedule in ‘access prime time’ to an informative special with the latest news on DANA which has hit several communities and left more than 150 fatalities in the Valencian Community. The night of Thursday the 31st Pablo Motos and their ants once again occupied their space on the grill, also on a night that promised strong emotions thanks to the long-awaited visit of Belén Esteban.
Before receiving it on set, however, the presenter changed his usual casual tone for a much more solemn one to dedicate a few words to the tragedy caused by the storm. «Good evening, we are here to put a smile on your face, which is sure to be good for all of us. I want to say one thing before we start. Even if it’s with a knot in our stomach, we’re going to have a good time tonight. Because we all need to catch a little breath and courage to move forward in the midst of so much anguish, so much pain and so much desperation,” he begins, visibly moved.
«I need to hear myself say some words. I am from Valencia, I was born in Requena, so it touches me closely. My family is there in the middle of everything, they are incommunicado. Last night my best friend escaped because he was driving my car and he was able to take refuge until the army took him out,” he revealed with shock. «Another of my friends is missing and we know nothing about him although we all hope that he is somewhere incommunicado. Life knows how to make you feel fragile and vulnerable when everything is going to change for you. Today many people are like this, they are devastated, they are without a future, without their things, without their dreams and without their loved ones,” he continued.
The presenter of ‘El Hormiguero’ makes an appeal
«That’s the worst, that’s the unbearable thing. The dead that we have not seen, because the televisions have had the delicacy of not showing them, they have seen them. That must be hard, because having a loved one go away like this is difficult to overcome. You can’t even understand the feeling you have, you are disoriented, you are empty, without direction. Not only have the walls and ceilings been broken, the feeling of security has been broken because everything has changed in a few hours. All the nonsense that worried us yesterday has been washed away by the storm and now we are all in the same place. And now what? Life is fighting, life is fighting. Even if we have pain, we know that almost all of us will be able to overcome it, although not all of us,” he reflected.
Then he made an appeal and recalled other events of similar magnitude. «The reality is that after the burst of the Tous dam, after the Lorca earthquake, after the La Palma volcano, many families still do not see a euro of the aid granted and continue to live thanks to the solidarity of their neighbors and their relatives. In La Palma there are people who continue to live in their cars or in prefabricated houses. The same in the rest of the areas affected by previous disasters. We citizens should not allow this. We should make a real effort to be united, even if it is for this. And have effort and determination in a few months when the ‘shock’ has passed.”
And he concluded by encouraging viewers that if you have someone close and you love them, hug them. “Every minute of life is a gift, and we are here to celebrate it, which is what we are going to do here tonight,” he concluded.
