Pablo González Yagüe Case: I confess and also accuse

As I have spoken out in this same column on several occasions about the case of Pablo González Yagüe – the Russian journalist and/or spy –; as opinions are read demanding chest beating and repentance from those of us who have raised our voices against their unjust prison situation in Poland and also as, in some way, I feel challenged and I am not one of those who shy away from debate or possible contradictions in that I may have incurred, here I go, to try to satisfy those requests.

I confess, yes, that I have sinned from love – professional and human – and that I have maintained here and, even in some public event, that the situation of someone who has been imprisoned in Poland from February 28, 2022 to August 1 of 2024, that is, for two years and five months, being held as a preventive prisoner in provisional arrest has been as serious as it is unjust. And that is what makes this case truly serious, since neither Pablo González nor anyone else has been aware during that time of any specific accusation or charge, nor of the specific investigation proceedings that have been carried out. nor, of course, of its result. To which must be added, according to what his wife and his lawyer have reported, that said prison situation took place in practically total isolation, being able to go out only one hour a day to a small patio, without being able to communicate with anyone, except for a few visitors. that he would have received from the Spanish consul and his Polish lawyer and a few letters that he was able to exchange with his family, with great difficulties in communicating effectively with the two lawyers who are handling his legal defense.
