In Readings, THE DEBATEemphasis has been placed on the high rate of overweight and obesity what's in the childhood and Adults Mexican. The National Survey of Health and Nutrition (ENSANUT) Continued 2023 for the State of Sinaloa seeks (a) to annually describe the health and nutrition states of the population…In the population of infants from 5 to 11 years of age in Sinaloa, ENSATU reports for 2023 a prevalence of overweight (SP) of 11.2% and obesity (O) of 19.6%, which represents that among Sinaloan children there is a prevalence of SP+O of 30.8%. That is, almost 4 of each Sinaloan infant has a prevalence of SP or O. In the case of girls the percentages are 9.8% of SP and 18.5% of O, and in boys the percentages are 12.7% of SP and 20.8% of O. ENSATU describes one of the main causes of these percentages of SP and O when exposing the data on “Food groups NOT recommended for daily consumption” in this age segment. Let's refer to two: “Sweetened beverages”, and “Snacks, sweets and desserts”. In the population segment from 5 to 11 years old, Sinaloa girls and boys consume 90.7% of “Sweetened beverages” and 69.2% of “Snacks, sweets and desserts.” With these percentages of O and SP, plus the consumption of those foods not recommended for daily consumption, it is highly likely that these Sinaloa girls and boys will develop diabetes or heart disease in their adolescent or adult years. The government, at all levels, and Sinaloa society must stop these indicators” (Readings, EL DEBATE, April 3, 2024). As you can see, the massive consumption of soft drinks and other junk foods in Mexico has been at the root of the epidemic of diabetes and heart disease.
Of candidates and candidate for childhood
Last Monday two presidential candidates, Claudia Sheinbaum and Xochitl Galvez more him candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez they signed the Pact for Early Childhood (PPI).
The PPI is a “Collective made up of 500 organizations whose objective is to make Early Childhood a priority and Mexico the best place to be born” (PPI Account X). On its website, the PPI describes itself as follows: “The Pact for Early Childhood is a citizen advocacy and collective impact initiative whose objective is to make early childhood a national priority” (In this link you can find the details of the PPI association and its goals: https://www.pactoprimerainfancia.org.mx/el-pacto/ ).
From FEMSA
Between the companies That stands out among the hundreds of organizations that make up the PPI is FEMSA. That company is the one that produces and markets in Mexico the refreshments of the Coca-Cola brand. On one of his internet pages he describes himself as follows: “The public bottler with the highest sales volume in the Coca-Cola System…” (https://coca-colafemsa.com/). On Wikipedia you can find this description: “FEMSA shares were listed for the first time on the Mexican Stock Exchange on September 19, 1978. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, FEMSA diversified its operations through acquisitions. and extends its operations to mineral water and soft drinks, in addition to starting the operations of the “Oxxo” convenience stores…” (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fomento_Econ%C3%B3mico_Mexicano). It is to be hoped that one day, this company will stop producing what ENSATU describes as the cause of death and illness among Mexican children.
Paragraphs: “Of dripping blood from head to toe”
Here Karl Marx's definition of original accumulation has been cited several times in Chapter XXIV of Volume I of Capital. There Marx points out: If money, as Augier says, “comes into the world with blood stains on one cheek”, capital does so dripping blood and mud, from every pore, from head to toe”… (Readings, THE DEBATE, 10/Jul/2016). It is hoped that FEMSA and other companies that participate in the PPI to support Mexican children, one day, will stop producing and marketing what ENSATU describes is at the basis of overweight and obesity among Mexican children, as well as its deadly consequences. Or, they will continue “flowing blood and mud” (Marx said) and humming the song of Maná, not to quote Marx: “…from head to toe…”.
