Blizzard’s free to play game servers have experienced problems in the first few hours.
Yesterday saw the long-awaited launch of Overwatch 2, the new numbered installment of the blizzard hero shooter after years of waiting and major changes, the most drastic of all being the conversion of the game to the free to play business model, allowing free access on the different platforms.
But today it’s no surprise that things don’t go according to plan, and this is what has happened to Overwatch 2. In its first few hours, players have experienced numerous connection problems that have marred the initial experience, and now we know thanks to Blizzard that it’s all due to a massive attack on their servers.
“Unfortunately, we are experiencing a massive DDoS attack on our servers. The teams are working hard to mitigate and manage the issue. This is causing a lots of crashes and connection errors“, wrote mike ybarrapresident of Blizzard, in a message on his social networks.
Blizzard has confirmed up to two DDoS attacks on serversDue to this attack whose origin is unknown, Overwatch 2 users have come to suffer queues of more than 40,000 people to enter the games. Aaron Kellerfrom Blizzard, has commented that the study is making progress stabilizing the servers, but has pointed out that they have suffered a second attack denial of service at night and will continue to inform us about it.
Despite the problems, the new approach to the game may be the main point of friction in this installment, which otherwise offers us a fun proposal, with adjustments that modernize the formula and consistent upgrade plans.
