Jez Corden – Windows Central journalist – has published a new report and claims that more Xbox first party games are currently in development for consoles PlayStation.
Corden says more Microsoft-owned games are in production for Sony’s platform under the code name of “Latitude”. Unfortunately the journalist wouldn’t say exactly what these games are, but said that “they are potentially obvious games that you would most likely expect.”
In short, don’t think of weird old side games, but to the most important recent Xbox titles. If we had to make some assumptions, we would think of works like Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 or, wanting to aim for even more impactful names, Starfield.
Corden says one possibility (so he doesn’t know for sure) is that Halo is one of the games coming to PlayStation. According to him it would make a lot of sense after the success of Sea of Thieves. Halo Infinite, in fact, would benefit from an arrival on new platforms, as it would see a new influx of users for the multiplayer side, thus giving new life to the project.
We are also certain that in that case many Xbox “fanboys” would be outraged, given that we are talking about a saga that is historically exclusive to Xbox and PC. For the moment, Microsoft has published Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment on PlayStation, all important names in their own way but none part of a historical saga.
Corden’s words on Microsoft’s internal plans
Corden explains: “The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is internally called ‘Latitude,’ and I know there’s discussion at Microsoft about whether it’s a good idea or not.”
“More Microsoft-owned games headed to PlayStation they are already in development. At least for now, these are potentially obvious games that one would expect. And yes, while it’s true that Microsoft is already a prolific publisher on PlayStation, it’s typically about specific franchises like Minecraft.”
“From what I hear, Microsoft is pushing to have no ‘front line’ when it comes to games that might come to PlayStation, and it’s all about the tenure of Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood at increase the margins of each department.”
