EH Bildu faces a “renewal” process that will end next February with the re-election of Arnaldo Otegi as general coordinatorand that the coalition takes advantage of to set the objectives of its future political project. Put an end to “neoliberal policies”, something that they see as unrealizable if The Basque Country does not recover its “national sovereignty”. With that goal on the horizon, Otegi has called for launching a “gradual process” in which he negotiates “as a country and not as a party” the recovery of those “freedoms”, which the Basque pro-independence left sees curtailed by the two States (Spain and France) in which he defends that the “old Basque nation” is divided.
«Euskal Herria is a nation that has the right to freely and democratically decide its future, “But I am convinced that we can reach a great agreement.”stated the general coordinator of EH Bildu. Theses that, although they are not new in Aberzale discourse, have a great deal of content, due to the fight they maintain with the PNV to lead the nationalist space in the autonomous community.
This is where the request to negotiate “as a country” and not individually is framed, since Bildu has been demanding since the investiture of Lendakari Imanol Pradales to open a space for nationalist forces to advance identity policies. Issue that the Peneuvists have rejectedin principle, committed to reaching “great agreements” and who, however, have supported, together with those of Otegi in the Governments of Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya, including the right to decide (euphemism for the right of self-determination) in the new Statute that is pending of negotiation.
This “gradual process” that Otegi speaks of would have Bildu as the main tool, but it should occur with the understanding that the Basque Country is a nation. That is the “framework” that the Basque independence left tries to imposein which he points to a great agreement, which respects the will of the “three territories” (Basque Country, Navarra and Iparralde) in which he understands that the national project is “administratively” divided.
