Fresnillo, one of the most unsafe cities in Mexico, in the State of Zacatecas, has woken up once again plunged into terror. Criminal groups have murdered nine people and left the bodies in various parts of the municipality. They have also cut two roads that connect the capital with nearby municipalities. The chaos is the response to the 26 arrests of cartel members that the security forces have carried out, as reported by the Zacatecas Secretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza.
The Government of Zacatecas has carried out several raids in recent days that have led to murders among members of different organized crime groups. “Through the emergency system, nine lifeless bodies were registered in the municipality of Fresnillo with messages addressed to an antagonistic group. The investigating authorities are already on the scene and the situation is reported to be stable with traffic cuts,” Reyes Mugüerza has published on his social networks.
Organized crime has also set its objective on causing chaos in the land communication routes with the city of Zacatecas, capital of the State. “This morning, two road blockades were recorded. In the vicinity of JOIN [Unidad Regional de Seguridad] located in the municipality of Trancoso and in the municipality of Pánfilo Natera. The security forces are already at both points restoring traffic and the situation is under control,” the secretary said.
The attack by the cartels comes from the capture between Monday and Sunday of 26 members of criminal organizations. “Yesterday, 13 more people were arrested, giving a total of 26 people belonging to a criminal group arrested in the last few hours. This has provoked new reactions,” confirmed Reyes Mugüerza.
The situation is very similar to what was experienced in the State this Monday. During the early morning, the cartels blocked several roads in response to the capture of their members. The criminals focused on burning trucks to wreak havoc in a region plagued by violence. Fresnillo has been one of the most unsafe cities in the country for several years, in which 96% of people feel little protected by local and state authorities, according to the latest National Urban Public Safety Survey.
