An emerging Cantabrian company has designed an application with artificial intelligence that helps football players, especially those of lower categories, to rebuild David Beckham’s hit.
In an interview with EFE, the CEO of Optimum Grade Response (OGR), Africa Álvarez, explains the reason to rebuild Beckham’s hit, the results that the application is obtaining with young soccer players and the objectives of its Startup.
OGR discovered about ten years ago the exact foot zone with which the English footballer suckled, which led the company to seek the methodology that allowed to copy that shot.
At the beginning, through a patent, they manufactured a boot and an average of footballer that helped hit with the exact part with which Beckham shot. After that tool, OGR began a process of research and creation of the footballer’s hit.
How does Beckham do the parable?
In that process, various questions were raised, how do Beckham and other players do to generate the ball parable. From there, they identified the exact area of the foot with which they hit to achieve that effect and the importance of making “an external turn of good hip.”
“That is when we see the need to have powerful tools to be able to climb even more and be able to give it a much more technological analysis. It is in that jump when we realize that if the utility model of the boot and average had a hardware and with devices that captured the data, now, through artificial intelligence (AI), it was not necessary,” Álvarez explains. And he adds that, thanks to the AI, there are “less rupture risks” of the initial tools to detect the blow.
Álvarez, who has designed this application with the soccer coach and technical head of OGR, Omar Gómez, realized that with the entrance of the AI, they could not only spread the hit any part of the world, but they could also capture the specific data.
Technology allows us to climb and connect many players of all levels
“That means having an immediate videos analysis that allows us to reach anywhere. And then, on top of that, technology allows us to climb and connect many players of all levels, of all ages, from anywhere in the world, which among them challenges themselves and want to continue consuming talent and knowledge,” he says.
Africa Álvarez has confessed that to get this tool they have been “almost four years”, testing the sports technical part, for which they have visited teams such as the Barcelona Club Football or Racing de Santander, with athletes and professionals in the sector, while in the technological part they have been about three years.
“Now, this year is to say when, after almost 10 years of work, very thorough, very field of field, analysis, errors, improvements and innovations, it is when we start collecting those fruits,” he says.
For base football
The CEO of OGR ensures that the tests carried out in these clubs have been with players of lower categories, since, in his opinion, it is “very delicate” internalize a different hit in elite athletes. “It can be a more than a success,” he emphasizes.
The results they are obtaining allow a technical improvement in the stopped ball of 70-80 %, especially at the precision level, that is, to make goal. And anyone can train the hit individually from anywhere on the planet thanks to the application that will be put into operation soon.
Álvarez says that in order for the optimal level to be acquired and internalized, “four well -made sessions of about two hours” are needed. To do this, OGR has its own coaches, around 70, who are the ones who teach the classes and teach to hit.

Álvarez explains that the download of the application is free and, as the athlete acquires and need more services within the application, it is when it begins to collect.
“It is based on the knowledge that you want to acquire, of the need or how long you can take to reproduce the blow. Also in whether you want more personalized treatment,” adds the businesswoman.
Now the company seeks to implement the application at national and international level and that “everyone knows it, download it and access it.” The challenge is that more clubs work with this simulator for their lower categories, which is where, in the opinion of Africa Álvarez, there is really the ability to develop that tool.
