Three members of the Civil Defense of Eldorado do Sul were temporarily removed from the organization on suspicion of diverting donations to those affected by the floods that are ravaging Rio Grande do Sul. The Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO) of the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) launched a search and seizure operation after receiving complaints that part of the donations sent to Eldorado do Sul was delivered solely with the aim of including future voters of those being investigated. Two of the three suspects are pre-candidates in the next municipal elections.
The warrants were carried out at the suspects’ homes, at city hall and in city warehouses. Cell phones, documents and money were seized. The crimes investigated are embezzlement, embezzlement and criminal association during a state of public calamity.
With the employees’ departure, it was decided, together with the city hall of Eldorado do Sul, that the Army will take over the delivery of donations to the victims of the flood in the municipality. The Force will be responsible for receiving, controlling and distributing donations to the population.
