Onishchenko recommended not to panic because of the discovery of a case of infection with monkeypox
After the discovery in Russia of a case of monkeypox infection, Russians do not need to panic – it is important to listen only to epidemiologists. This was stated by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Gennady Onishchenko, informs KP.RU.
The country’s former chief sanitary doctor also gave advice to the Russians after the discovery of the disease. Onishchenko recommended paying attention to any rash on the body and monitoring the temperature – in particular, special attention should be paid to children, the specialist emphasized.
Onishchenko advised to call a doctor if any rash is found on the body. If symptoms of infection appear, you should not use public transport so as not to infect others, the academician emphasized. According to him, it is important for Russians to know about the ways of infection with monkeypox. So, the infection is transmitted not only by airborne droplets, Onishchenko noted, smallpox can also be contracted by contact with the clothes of an infected person.
“After a rash appears on the body, it dries up, a crust forms, voids, they burst and a lot of virus comes out with them. You also need to know this, ”said the former chief sanitary doctor.
In addition, Onishchenko advised to refrain from traveling to epidemiologically disadvantaged countries, including Portugal, Great Britain, Spain, France and other European countries, as well as Israel and Canada.
On July 12, Rospotrebnadzor announced the first case of monkeypox infection in the country. The infection was detected in St. Petersburg in a Russian who arrived from Portugal. He went to the doctor with a rash characteristic of monkeypox.
