Netflix officially announced the anime series based on Onimusha, showing the public the first images of the work. It is a story based on the namesake video game series developed by Capcom and which, in 2017, boasted the sale of over 8 million copies in total. The game world inspired by Resident Evil has been a great success, and Netflix, which lately winks at Japanese anime and productions, did not miss the opportunity to bring Onimusha to the small screen.

As announced, the anime series was created by Takashi Miike and Shinya Sugai and, although it is new to the streaming platform, it is good to remember that this is not the first time that video games have been transposed to the screen. In fact, in 2006 the film was released Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (Sunset of Dreams), created thanks to the scenes of the title released on PlayStation 2, with the addition of some extra sections.
Onimusha is a survival game with many elements typical of feudal Japan, a detail that attracted the attention of the players as a particularly popular setting, even today. The first game in the series debuted in 2001 on the PlayStation 2, although it was originally meant for the PlayStation. The collection of the first three titles of the Onimusha series has been grouped under the title of Onimusha Essentialswhich was followed up Dawn of Dreams in 2006.
