The masterpiece of Eichiro Oda seems to have no borders and is enriched with another film, dedicated to Luffy and companions, entitled One Piece Film: Red. Regardless of everything, it is a work aimed at the most avid fans of the saga and although yes, it can in fact also be seen by those who have never had anything to do with the pirates of the crew of Straw hat, it goes without saying that you risk not understanding much about the characters who will take turns on the screen in what are almost two hours of video. Prepare the microphones because in fact, you will be singing at the top of your throat in this unusual adventure.
Uta and music
On an unspecified island of the Grande Blue, the sea where the greatest dangers in the world reside, there is a girl named Uta who is able with her voice to enchant even the person less inclined to the world of music. Unfortunately the girl has always had a weak constitution that prevented her from performing in lasting concerts but it seems that things are about to change: a huge concert is organized on the island and Luffy and her crew can’t wait to participate. as an audience. At the end of the first, amazing song, Luffy takes the stage of her diva revealing to the whole world that she knows her perfectly and that the latter, is none other than the daughter of Shanks the Red, one of the four King Emperors of the seven seas and life teacher of Luffy himself. From here begins a daring adventure in which the pirates of the crew of our hero, Straw Hat, will find themselves defending little Uta from the attacks of other crews intent on kidnapping the girl and asking for a large ransom from her father Shanks. Uta will immediately prove to be well capable of thinking about herself and will open several ideas for dialogue with her childhood friend Luffy. In spite of everything, the plot for this film is rather mundane and not very relevant to the extraordinary plots to which Eichiro Oda has accustomed us over time: on the other hand we can also say that the One Piece films have never been canonical, ergo whatever happens in these long footage has no real impact with the continuity of the main saga.
Sing to survive
What happens in One Piece Film: Red is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or heard in a product about the saga: Uta actually has a personal power linked to his music and therefore rightly does nothing but sing whenever the opportunity arises. This poses several problems for viewing purposes as the film viewed is not dubbed in Italian and even less in English: the result is that yes, we hear a voice (that of the Japanese singer Ado) that is beautiful and capable of making our voices vibrate. internal chords but that in fact we have no idea what he is saying, although there is the text below the stanzas and that the latter is translated, the immersiveness that is drawn from it is very little; for example imagine taking your favorite song and not having your favorite singer to sing it but a simple text in Italian and another artist who sings that song in a language unknown to you: it goes without saying that you will miss a whole series of things and emotions that the singer, by vibrating the vocal cords, will sing and consequently no matter how beautiful the text you had in front of you, it will all turn out rather flat. On an artistic level the film is perfect and the characterization of the characters (both those never seen and the heroes of all time) is unparalleled, as always Eichiro Oda is the undisputed master in this field. The realization of 3D mixed with the classic two-dimensional technique typical of Japanese cartoons is also good.
Yeah but Shanks?
One Piece Film: Red it was an event that the title was expected to have something to do with Shanks the Red in a preponderant way: in fact, events close to this character are narrated who has always been loved by the general public but as usual, he never combines anything really interesting and everything is reduced to speculations and ideas that the viewer returns to home. As it often happens, One Piece Film: Red was sold for something it didn’t is: the plot of a unique pretext banality, the theme of music that is objectively not in line with the pirate product we are talking about (it seemed to see a K-Pop show at one point) and the fighting bordering on ridicule , make this product dedicated exclusively to a niche in the niche or to those fans who madly love the product in general and who want to know every little detail, however infinitesimal and inconclusive it may be. Basically, if you are a huge fan of the manga and anime in question, you will watch the film with a genuine dose of enjoyment, otherwise you may be disappointed by the wasted time.

One Piece Film: Red
7Final vote
One Piece Film: Red is a pirate-themed musical by Eichiro Oda although the product seemed to be Shanks the Red, it turned out to be anything but highlighting the past of this great pirate but which in fact makes a new character of named Uta, who turns out to be Shanks’ adopted daughter according to Straw Hat Luffy. The plot (of a unique banality) and the realization with music not dubbed but left in Japanese (sung masterfully of course) mean that if you are a die-hard fan of the product you can see it serenely otherwise you might come out disappointed.
